I have been back from Vienna for a week now, getting everything back in order. Vienna was beautiful, a wonderful city. While Kevin was at the conference, I walked around (a lot) and went to many, many museums.
Just to point out one museum, the Leopold Museum has Egon Schiele, which I knew some of his work but not a lot. His work was beautiful!
I bought a postcard of this painting, House with Shingles, Just the detail and the way he captures light in it, is incredible.
I went to the two big palaces, Belvedere and Shronbrunn palace. Both were HUGE, and overly decadent.
Kevin and I went to Vienna coffee houses and the atmosphere was nice but I wasn't blown away by the coffee or food, it just tasted like a creamy cappuccino. I did not have a schnitzel...
Kevin's conference went well, he was able to go to both palaces with me and we went to the natural history museum and an art museum.
I am back to the real world.
Here is the sketch of my next project!
I don't think my intention was fairytale illustration, but that is what I ended up with haha.
It is another take on the cycle of life. The deer is dying, the wolves are about to eat. The flowers coming out of the deer is a representation of going back into the earth. I wanted to then have a "hunter", preferably human aiming to shoot one of the wolves, but what I was drawing out looked tacky or too obvious, so a scratched it.
I am working with a different kind of linoleum, and I like it, the cut is really smooth, the lines are clear and distinct and it doesn't stretch. I need to work on the top, the leaves, and the ground, give it some perspective. I also need to cut around the wolves instead of just outlining them, so lots of foliage will be added.
Here is a detail shot, to show the cuts. I like the illustration vibe for this piece, i just hope I can execute it properly. It could just end up looking like a shitty lame fairy tale looking thing. Hopefully it doesn't! haha.
