Not so much as who but more as a what?
My parents were gracious enough to bring it down with them when they came to visit.
It is currently placed in my bedroom, I need to get a lamp and a sturdier table so I don't get ink everywhere.
But yesterday was my first day printing on the press again!
And my goodness, I did not realize how much I missed it! All the ink is on the paper! I can actually see what all my cuts look like, and be able to see the entirety of the print.
I still don't exactly have a "studio" space but you gotta deal with you got.
The print I was most looking forward to seeing on the press was my The Kiss inspired print.
I still have some more cutting to do, but I definitely like the way it's going. This was the first thing I did on the press and I swear I almost teared up because it was so clean! I haven't seen a clean print in months! It was so refreshing.
I bought some flour sack towels to print on, and I did a couple of those yesterday.
As I'm looking at the photos I realized that because it's fabric I probably need to put double the amount of ink on the block because it soaks it up a bit more. I enjoyed printing these a lot. The pattern line up isn't perfect, because I'm human, but it doesn't bother me that much.
So I let these a dry for a few days and I guess I then iron them to set the ink, and then I'm going to test them out, to see if this something I could potentially sell.
My parents visit was nice! They came down last Thursday. Friday we went to the Smokies and Oh. My. God. I knew it'd be busy in October but not to the point where I'd want to pull my hair out. We went to Cades Cove, which was our first mistake. And then we went to the Dome, which was the nail in the coffin.
The only reason we kept going was because it really was gorgeous. I kept saying everything was impressive because it really was! It was just endless mountains and I was completely in awe.
That makes it slightly okay (but really not) that we were stuck in traffic for TWO HOURS. We were driving down the mountain from the dome. I could have hiked the freaking Appalachian Trail and got out of the park faster.
I have decided that the general public is idiotic, people in general are very self involved. So we were stuck in traffic because of a bear in a tree. And people, thought it was okay to block traffic for their shitty photos of a bear's butt. Like this place isn't an amusement park I shouldn't be waiting in line to see a bear. I mean GTFO of the way, what makes you think you can park in the middle of the road? Cause we can't go anywhere. And rangers letting it get that bad is another reason I was so annoyed. Just herd the idiots cause there's A LOT of them.
That got a little ranty, I'm just the complete opposite of those kinds of people, I am very aware of how my actions affect people. I wouldn't stop for a bear because it would block traffic and I'm also terrified of bears.
Oh I didn't even get to the end of the day yet. So because of all the traffic we were in the Smokies from 10ish to like 5ish?!?!?!!?!?! And I was like we need to get out of the park so I suggested to go thru Pigeon Forge, and holy smokes, talk about the cherry on top of the whatever.
I don't even know how to describe Pigeon Forge except that it's HORRIFYING. I know I wouldn't like anyone that would decide to vacation there?
"Why yes could I have a ticket for one for the Biblical Times Dinner Show?"
It was a different world, a fascinating, terrifying world.
Look it up, please, if you want a laugh.
The last day my parents were here we went to brunch and then walked around Market Square, a lot more low key and a lot less traffic. We went to a mexican restaurant, that has such a tiny store front that it can easily be missed, but it was SO GOOD. I love mexican food.
But overall I think they liked Knoxville? We're going to Asheville the next time they visit!
Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Halloween!
I'll just be eating candy, I bought myself.
So I know I didn't move to Florida, but it's cold here! I wasn't expecting that bite of Winter so quickly in Tennessee. I at least get to wear scarves and boots.
So I might have a serving job soon! I have a final interview tomorrow, and it seems flexible and organized? Hopefully they're not just hiring me because of the holidays, because I will not be there for Christmas. aha. But I will clarify that with them and hopefully everything will be okay! If not, there will be other serving jobs.
My parents are visiting this weekend! And they're bringing the press! Yay! I'm also excited to see my parents! haha. I haven't seen them since August and I'll get to show them around Knoxville. I wish they were bringing Tucker, though. I miss that dog.
I've carved one of my mini pumpkins!
Kevin and I went to a cute pumpkin patch over the weekend. It was a lovely day, bought two mini pumpkins, and bought apple cider. An odd number of people weren't walking to the patch, they would wait for the tractor to come to pick them up. Kevin and I walked and it was less then 15 minutes to walk there and it wasn't difficult to walk? Either people are lazy or they want the "hayride" experience. We some goats and horses. Kevin bought a pumpkin to stuff, he saw this episode of one of Anthony Bourdain's many shows of him in a french town and this farm family had this huge pumpkin and stuffed it with crusty bread, nutmeg, gruyere cheese, bacon, and cream. So Kevin wanted to try it, and it was pretty good! The nutmeg was perfect. I think sage would've been a nice touch.
Update on my Moochie; So the first round of medication, the vet said "it worked too well" so I lowered the dosage and she's healthy! The vet said everything looked great! Thank goodness! So now I just have to set the date for the Iodine therapy! She has to be off the medication for at least 14 days. Once she gets the injection she stays at the clinic for 5-7 days, so they can watch her, and they'll call me everyday with an update. Leaving at the place will probably be pretty difficult, because 1. It's 7 days and 2. She's probably petrified. They say she's in a quiet area for those 5-7 days but I know Moochie likes dark little corners, so she won't have anywhere to go in a cage. Wish me luck and fingers crossed that everything goes smoothly!
I've only worked on one little linocut.
Inspired by last week when I was I just googling a bunch of different stuff about the art world and I was just so overwhelmed, there is so much information, there is so much I don't know. And not to get too preachy or pathetic but it gets really hard to stay motivated when you feel like you're at a stand still with your work. I'm not sure about these next steps, I feel like I just have to throw myself out there, not gracefully and learn from those mistakes. I see other artists being successful and I just want to yell, "HOW DO YOU DO THAT?" Like how do you get people to see your stuff more? How do you find art blogs to promote your work?
Okay I'm getting crazy, but anyway that's my little linocut proof, I'm probably going to add a little more flowers, to make it a fuller wreath. I want to make more patterns, I saw this video on facebook on how to make a pattern, and it looked really fun and easy. So hopefully you'll see some patterns within the next few weeks.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
Hello! It's definitely getting cooler here in the mornings and evenings! The cats want to snuggle a lot more. haha. This week has been pretty mellow, I'm on the job hunt, haven't heard anything yet, but I am trying to stay positive!
I've been working on my prints this week, and want to get them on my etsy. I need to seriously start building an online business if I want an actual career in printmaking!
I need a huge sign on the refrigerator saying, "Get your shit together!"
I've made a couple christmas cat cards, I'm starting to feel festive.
I also made another cat head floral crown! My persian cat. haha.
I also saw my Aunt Laura yesterday! It was so nice seeing her, she showed us a few back roads. And she's the first extended relative to meet Kevin!
I actually now have everything up on my etsy!
So please take a look around!
